Gordon Miller founded the TennisCambridge organization in 2022, in response to a suggestion from the city of Cambridge. The city suggested that instead of one club seeking an indoor facility, all city clubs should unite and do it. So he contacted the other club presidents and had the initial meeting at the Victoria Park Clubhouse. He has been growing the TennisCambridge community ever since.

Our mission is formed from an assessment of capacity in Waterloo Region:
All of TennisCambridge clubs are on Cambridge city-owned land and all of the buildings associated with the clubs are city-owned property (except GSM). All are outdoor only. There are no tennis clubs in Kitchener - only public courts.
Participant costs:
Membership fees are kept as low as possible to keep from being a barrier to entry.
Equipment costs are minimal, requiring only a racquet and sneakers, unlike many other sports which can require significant expenditures.
City Costs:
Facilities are run for the benefit of the citizens of Cambridge at no cost for staff, no cost for programs, no cost for routine maintenance and no cost for administration.
Short term:
Maintain and preserve the standard of current facilities.
Long term:
Provide for the demand for recreational tennis for a growing population. The current facilities cannot meet that demand. Most players cannot play winter tennis. Eventually a centralized facility with more courts and an indoor facility will be required to meet demand.
“We need an indoor tennis club in the Waterloo region to service Cambridge and surrounding area.”
Harry Greenan
